| News | | City Adds GPS Tracking Program for Walking Patrol | | 3.16.2009 | To effectively manage the UEZ walking patrols in a more effective and efficient manner, the UEZ has funded a GPS tracking system for the patrolmen who walk the beat. "Knowing exactly where the officer is walking will greatly enhance our ability to be at the scene of an incident much quicker," says Police Director James Cosgrove. "This high tech unit just adds to the state-of-the-art police system in place at the EPD, the state's largest police force." The EAP oversees five walking patrols, consisting of 20 officers, seven days a week. "The Extra Duty Walking Patrols provide a great sense of security for merchants, shoppers and residents alike," says Jose Estevez, Safety/Security Chairman and owner of Casablanca Supermarket, 701 Marshall Street. "If you have a problem that requires immediate assistant, please call the EPD at 558-2000 and ask the dispatcher to send a UEZ Walking Patrolman as soon as possible," said Estevez. | |
