Logo Design Contest Underway
The Elizabeth Avenue Partnership (EAP) is looking for a new logo for the downtown Special Improvement District which it manages. The "Logo" will be used to help promote the business community on Elizabeth Avenue in Elizabeth, NJ. The Board of Directors of the EAP has authorized this contest and invites students and adults to submit an entry. The current logo has been used for past 10 years and the Directors feel it's time for a new updated design.

The EAP feels that this is an excellent opportunity for a local artist, graphic designer or student to get some great recognition for their talent.

Currently, The EAP brands it's self as Elizabeth Avenue "the Market" with a global sphere, carpet/commerical building back drop on a blue background. The new design/logo:

- should evoke a positive image

- should have have an immediate impact and hold the viewers attention

- the desisgn should not be too cluttered, as it may be used on a 30" x 60" banner

- the design should be functional and copy well, as it will be used on letterhead, business cards etc.

- the design should be simple but with an impact

- the design should use standard pantone colors and/or be web safe colors

The EAP is a nonprofit organization, designated by the City of Elizabeth to manage the Elizabeth Avenue Special Improvement District (SID). It's mission has been to revitalize and enhance all aspects of the Elizabeth Avenue shopping district. The focus of the EAP is on the areas of: Image & Appearance, Safety/Security and Parking, Promotions, Childrens Events and quality Business Development.

The EAP'S objectives are:

- improving the Image and Appearance of the district

- promoting the district through publicity and events

- improving the safety and security within the district

- improving the parking and accessibility to the district, as well as,

- recruiting and retaining businesses within the shopping district

The Elizabeth Avenue Special Improvement District (SID) is a very vibrant multicultural shopping district and has many ethically diversed restaurants. The term "the Market" has been used because the district is historically known for a very bustling, open air, Farmers' Market.

Judging of all sunmissions will be conducted by the EAP'S Image and Appearance Committee, with the final say coming from the Executive Committee. If no submission meets approval, a winning logo may not be selected from this contest.

"Logo" in this instance is defined as a design or graphic, image or symbol that represents Elizabeth Avenue, whether it be historical, business oriented or cultral. The logo designs may be created on a computer or by hand, but submissions should be presented in electronic form, if possible. The winning "logo" design will become the property of the Elizabeth Avenue Partnership to use as it sees fit and may not be re-used or re-created by the designer for any other purpose.

The contest will run through May 2008 with the winning logo to be announced in June 2008.

The winner of the EAP "Logo" Design Contest will get the pride that comes from seeing their design used on district banners, letterhead, signage and EAP promotional materials.

The winner will also be featured in a profile and published in EAP press releases, newsletters and be featured on the Mayor's Television Program, "Our City", which airs on local Cablevision. The profile will mention that the person created the winning design and could highlight his/her creative process. The profile may also look at the person's other creative endeavors or how they contribute to the community. This profile is meant to thank the winner for getting involved and will highlight the individual for their creative efforts.
