Elizabeth Avenue Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Elizabeth Avenue Partnership (EAP) is proud to announce a “Happy Hour” Concert series on Elizabeth Avenue beginning on Thursday, September 29th from 5-7 p.m. Concerts will follow the next two Thursday’s, October 6th and October 13th

The concerts will take place at Union Square Plaza on Elizabeth Avenue. The event is sponsored in part by a HEART Grant (History, Education, Arts, Reaching Thousands) from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and will feature live bands playing Latin favorites including, meringue, salsa, cumbia and bachata.

“Stop by after work, grab a snack at one of our many local eateries and enjoy the music before heading home,” said Dave Strochak, Executive Director of the EAP. “You may even learn a new dance step or two.”

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th each year. This time frame was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21, respectively. “The Elizabeth Avenue business district is a diverse and vibrant community with deep ethnic roots, rich in culture and tradition. We are a bustling retail and restaurant destination easily accessible to the world and we are committed to providing a friendly “neighborhood”, one that will include a safe and clean environment and gives customers a feeling of togetherness. These concerts are a great way to celebrate the incredible cultural diversity we have in this great city,” said Strochak.
