Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Elizabeth Avenue
Elizabeth Avenue---The Elizabeth Avenue Partnership (EAP) will sponsor a Hispanic Heritage Month Lunchtime Concert Series sponsored in part by a HEART Grant (History, Arts, Education Reaching Thousands) working with local restaurants to promote the cultural diversity and ethnic heritage of the area. Restaurants will offer lunch specials and live music will be presented at the sites.

EAP Chairman Angel Rodriguez of State Farm Insurance stated, "We are very excited to highlight some of our great restaurants this year, where you can enjoy some great food along with awesome music! So come on down to Elizabeth Avenue and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month the way it should be celebrated!"

Three Latin Jazz concerts will take place between the hours of 12-2 p.m. featuring a wide variety of salsa, meringue, cumbia and bachata at the following restaurants;

Wednesday, September 27th at El Charrito Paisa, 659 Elizabeth Avenue, which features delicious Colombian and Mexican Cuisine. El Charrito Paisa will offer half price appetizers between 12-2 p.m. the day of the concert. The beautiful and spacious interior is decorated in a rustic Latin motif and features the Molcajete Charrito, which is a typical Mexican dish served with beef, chicken, shrimp, onions, chipotle sauce, avocado and fresh cheese, and La Bandeja Paisa, which is a typical Colombian dish served with grilled steak or chicken, rice, beans, fried pork, sausage, avocado, corn pie, fried egg, and fried sweet plantain.

The second concert will take place at Don Felix Bar and Restaurant on Tuesday, October 3rd and is located at 559 Elizabeth Avenue. Specials for the day will include 20% off all meals and the featured meal of the day will be Steak and Peppers. Don Felix opened in 2016 and offers American-Latin Fusion and offers salads, wraps, burgers, pasta, steaks and seafood and is home to the ‘All Day’, $3 Margarita and Pina Colada. An outdoor backyard patio adds a nice touch for warm days and Happy Hour specials take place all week and feature half price appetizers and drink specials. A DJ plays every Friday and Saturday.

The final concert will take place on Tuesday, October 10th at La Cabana Mexican Restaurant located at 901 Elizabeth Avenue. Free coffee and dessert will be served between 12-2 p.m. with all lunch orders. La Cabana has been serving authentic Mexican cuisine for over a decade now on Elizabeth Avenue. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, La Cabana is decorated in traditional tacqueria décor, complete with large murals. Owner Miguel Barajas has added his own personal touch to traditional family recipes resulting in savory dishes which are all made fresh on the premises.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th each year. This time frame was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21, respectively.

“The Elizabeth Avenue business district is a diverse and vibrant community with deep ethnic roots, rich in culture and tradition. We are a bustling retail and restaurant destination easily accessible to the world and we are committed to providing a friendly “neighborhood”, one that will include a safe and clean environment and gives customers a feeling of togetherness. These concerts are a great way to celebrate the incredible cultural diversity we have in this city and a small buttaste of our restaurants” said David Strochak, EAP Executive Director.
