January 2010 - Go Elizabeth!
Did you know that the first Ice Cream soda was created right here in Elizabeth?

The story goes that on a very hot day back in 1858, a local banker complained to the proprietor of a soda and ice cream saloon in Port Elizabeth that his drink was too warm. The owner decided to add a spoonful of ice cream to the gentleman’s sarsaparilla. The new concoction was refreshing, tasty and an instant hit…thus was born the ice cream soda.
