EAP Tree-Lighting Ceremony on Elizabeth Avenue---The EAP kicked off its holiday shopping season on Elizabeth Avenue with a festive tree-lighting ceremony recently. As the first of 10 tree-lighting ceremonies held throughout the City of Elizabeth, the EAP's event did not disappoint. Even with the inclement weather forecast which was done live at the site by News-12's Dave Curren during his "Weather on the 1's" segment at Union Square Plaza on Elizabeth Avenue, Santa was joined by Mayor Chris Bollwage and a host of local children arriving via Horse-Drawn Carriage, sponsored by the EAP. Upon arrival, Trio Cristal played holiday favorites while an elf treated the children to colorful balloon sculptures. Mayor Bollwage, First-Ward Councilman Manny Grova and the EAP Board of Directors joined children in the countdown to light the tree, followed by the Latin Guitar Trio's set of Latin Holiday songs. Afterward, Santa's Mailbox was unveiled, inviting children to place a letter to Santa. All the while, children had the opportunity to enjoy the horse and buggy rides up and down Elizabeth Avenue. "This is our 11th tree lighting ceremony to date and they just seem to get better every year," said Ivette Zeik-Fernicola of Leonardo Jewelers.
