Elizabeth Avenue---Bossa Brasil is set to perform at the Elizabeth Avenue Partnerships (EAP) Hispanic Heritage Month Lunchtime Concert Series scheduled for Tuesday, October 9th, from 12-2 p.m. at Union Square Plaza during the Farmers Market. Directly after the Hispanic Heritage Month Concert, John Schipani will be performing with his band, "The Sounds of Italy" at 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for a special Columbus Day Tribute.
This will be the third concert of the season brought to Union Square by the EAP and sponsored in part by a HEART Grant (History, Education, Arts, Reaching Thousands) by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The opening act was by Yankala on Tuesday, September 25 while the second act performed on Tuesday, October 2nd and featured a progressive rock band, SIOS.
Tuesday, October 9th's performer, Bossa Brasil was founded by jazz drummer, Mauricio de Souza, who performs both traditional jazz and Brazilian styles. Performing sophisticated and exotic rhythms of the Baiao and the Chorinho, Bossa Brasil has played in popular venues throughout the metropolitan area including well known jazz clubs all over New York City.
Bossa Brasil performed at the Hispanic Heritage Month concerts last year and was a huge success. We really enjoyed performing for the good people of Elizabeth, said de Souza. It was a great day and we look forward to this years event.
Schipani and his Sounds of Italy band will play favorites such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in honor of Columbus Day. His band will play from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Hispanic Heritage Month concerts will culminate on Tuesday, October 16th from 12- 2 p.m. with Latin Guitarists, Trio Cristal who bring an upbeat tempo and lively sound of Salsa and Meringue.
